Thank you for sending your Sisson letter!

Thank you for speaking up to protect the Nashwaak watershed by submitting your concerns about the plan to use fish-bearing brooks in the Nashwaak for the proposed Sisson mine’s waste!

Thanks to you, and the nearly 900 New Brunswickers who joined you in sending a letter during this second phase, the federal government has heard loud and clear how important the Nashwaak watershed is to the people of our province. This was a powerful show of love for our waters. Thank you!

What happens next?

Environment Canada will prepare a package of documents related to the Sisson Partnership’s proposed amendments to the Metal Mining Effluent Regulations, including a summary of the public consultation you just participated in. This package will work its way up to the federal cabinet for the final decision.

So, we still have a ways to go, but we will send you updates throughout the process. There may be other opportunities for you to get involved, and we will let you know when and how.

In the meantime, you can help by following our Facebook page and sharing our posts about the Sisson mine project and our other work that interests you. Every share helps to amplify our voice for environmental protection and smart growth, just like every letter sent added up to a big impact for the Nashwaak watershed.

We have two things you can check out right now: a video of a presentation made at Conserver House (our office at 180 St. John St. in Fredericton) about the history of the companies behind the Sisson mine project; and, the Conservation Council’s official submission to Environment Canada. If you’d like more information about our work on the mine or any topic, just let us know.

Thank you, again, for getting involved and helping to protect the Nashwaak River watershed!
