I am writing to urge your government to pursue real energy reform for a cleaner, fairer future in New Brunswick. New Brunswickers are feeling the pressure. Power bills are rising, the system is carrying billions in debt, and too many families are being left behind. The recent N.B. Power review makes it clear that our electricity system isn’t working, and without reform, it will only get more expensive and less sustainable. We don’t need more of the same. We need bold, people-first energy reform that lowers costs, cuts pollution, and builds a system that works for everyone. I am calling on the government to act now by: Modernizing New Brunswick’s energy laws and policies Update the Electricity Act and Energy and Utilities Board mandate to prioritize affordability, sustainability, and a path to net-zero, while enabling renewable energy, energy efficiency, and local energy solutions; Shifting to smarter, lower-cost energy solutions Invest in wind, solar, and battery storage, and prioritize smaller, community-based projects that reduce risk, lower costs, and deliver local benefits instead of relying on a few large, expensive projects; Choosing modern, efficient technologies over fossil fuels Focus on solutions like heat pumps that lower bills and emissions, instead of expanding costly and polluting natural gas systems; Expanding access to energy efficiency for everyone Increase funding, offer zero-interest loans, and ensure renters, landlords, and middle-income households can access upgrades that reduce energy bills; Strengthening regional cooperation in Atlantic Canada Work with neighbouring provinces to unlock renewable energy, improve reliability, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. New Brunswick has an opportunity to build a better energy system—one that is affordable, sustainable, and built for the future. It’s time to act. Please take action.
