Great news for Fredericton’s Ferris St. Forest & Wetland!

We have good news to warm you this frigid January morning!Tracy_Amelia

The Nature Trust’s application for a leasing agreement with the City of Fredericton to co-manage the Ferris Street forest and wetland surrounding the Sunset berry fields has been accepted by Fredericton City Council. The agreement aims to ensure that this special area of Fredericton remains in a natural state for the enjoyment of residents today and into the future.

The Conservation Council of New Brunswick extends its congratulations to the Friends of Ferris Street Forest and Wetland for their hard work in protecting this area. The citizens’ action group formed when it became known that the area cherished for its berry fields, forest and wetland could be threatened by development. They organized an effective campaign to save the berry u-pick (and won!), built coalitions, recruited scientists to their cause, wrote letters to city councilors and the media, petitioned door-to-door, and more to ensure that we can continue to walk, ski and snowshoe a wooded trail where we can spot birds and forest flowers in our city.

In appreciation,

Tracy
