Doctor knows best!

Amazing news!

Today the Canadian Medical Association — representing more than 80,000 medical professionals across the country — voted to divest from companies whose primary business relies upon fossil fuels!

What’s more, the CMA will look at moving its investments into renewable energy solutions!

This kind of support from the Canadian medical community in the fight against climate change is huge — let’s show them some love folks! Retweet and favourite their tweets below, and share this page to your friends on social media!

The CMA has more than $29 million in investments. More than 43 000 physicians invest with CMA’s subsidiary, MD Financial Management, including Dr. Courtney Howard, an emergency doctor in Yellowknife who spearheaded the move for divestment alongside the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE), which has over 6000 members.

This was the third year in a row that a group of eco-conscious physicians  campaigned at the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) General Council (happening Aug. 23–26) for physician associations to divest from fossil fuels and reinvest in renewable energy. Third times the charm!

The international divest–invest movement has been gaining momentum since it began in 2012, with more than $3-billion divested from fossil fuels and moved into renewables to date! The decision by CMA is the latest bit of momentum from the medical community. In 2014, the British Medical Association committed to divesting from fossil fuels and The Royal Australasian College of Physicians followed suit in June.
