Electric School Buses: Better For Our Kids' Health, Better For Our Climate

Electric School Buses: Better For Our Kids’ Health, Better For Our Climate

We’re calling on the New Brunswick government to follow the example of neighbouring Prince Edward Island and Quebec by putting in place a mandate and clear targets to achieve a 100 per cent electric school bus fleet over the next 10 years.

Electric school buses just make sense. They are better for our kids’ health and they reduce the carbon pollution that is driving climate change and extreme weather.

Diesel school buses emit pollutants for which there is no safe exposure level. Children are especially vulnerable to these pollutants,  which contribute to childhood bronchitis, asthma, and other respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

While electric school buses have a higher price tag upfront, they have significantly lower maintenance and fuel costs and qualify for federal rebates that cover up to 50 per cent of costs. We can benefit from the lessons P.E.I. has learned in overcoming the initial challenges to school bus fleet electrification. One quarter of the Island’s school bus fleet is already electric thanks to strong leadership from its provincial government.

Fill out the form below and we’ll bring your voice to Premier Blaine Higgs and Education Minister Bill Hogan encouraging them to commit to a fully-electric school bus fleet!

Will you help amplify our call for electric school buses?
