New School Year, New Exciting Opportunities For Kids To Learn Outside In Nature!

As kids return to school this week, our Learning Outside Coordinator and in-house ecologist, Dr. Nadine Ives, is excited to help province’s hard-working teachers get their students out of the classroom and back where kids learn best – outside, in the fresh air, where hungry minds can take in the sights and sounds of nature.

For more than a decade, the Conservation Council’s Learning Outside project has developed and delivered fun, engaging curriculum-based activities and educational materials all about New Brunswick species and habitats to support and encourage teachers to take their classes outside in nature.

Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, Nadine hosted activities for 418 students across six New Brunswick schools last year, where kids learned about the plants, animals and habitats found on or near their school grounds. She also helped develop and facilitate virtual professional development sessions for teachers across N.B. and Canada.

What can you expect from Dr. Ives this year? More school visits! More engaging activities!

This year, Nadine hopes to bring her school visits back to pre-pandemic levels,  but we need your help to make it happen. Whether you’re a parent looking for fun educational outdoor activities or a teacher seeking inspiration or guidance in an effort to get your classroom outside, we’re here to help! You can contact us to arrange a school visit for your class by sending an email to: nadine@conservationcouncil.ca.

In the meantime, don’t let the good weather go to waste! Our fantastic activity and colouring sheets will help you and your kids identify animal tracks in the wild, our native seeds and plants, and explore the different types of ecosystems that support them:
