There’s an app for that! ExploreEcoNB

Whether you’re looking for a quiet place to watch wildlife, a breathtaking view, or the adventure of a lifetime, now “there’s an app for that”  in New Brunswick!

Ten of the province’s nature- and environmental-based organizations along with key government agencies have collaborated over the past year to give you ExploreEcoNB. The brand new mobile application connects you with nature, encouraging outdoor physical activity, exploration, and appreciation of natural places in New Brunswick.  The app is now available for free download on iOS, Android and Windows mobile platforms. Download it today!

The partnership responsible for the development of the app include the Nature Trust of New Brunswick, Conservation Council of New Brunswick, Department of Natural Resources, Nature Conservancy of Canada, Nature NB, New Brunswick Provincial Parks, Parks Canada, Sentiers NB Trails, Meduxnekeag River Association and Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society.

All of the partners involved in this project have something unique to contribute to the project, including nature preserves, reserves, national and provincial parks, trails, Protected Natural Areas, Important Bird Areas, and public entry points for the St. John River. You can explore these natural areas with the primary mapping feature of the app, which also offers the ability to choose your destination of choice based on activities, proximity, or one of the province’s tourism regions.

The Conservation Council of New Brunswick is proud to be a part of this unique collaboration that brings our province’s’ natural recreational gems to New Brunswickers and visitors.

CCNB has contributed a map of public access to the St. John River which we have been collecting from sources such as Service New Brunswick, the St. John River Society, and Sentier Trails NB, over the past year.

The St. John River offers great paddling for both beginners and adventure seekers like Amy who, with her partner, Dave, traveled the entire length while on a recent North American paddling expedition.

Our interest in public access to the river stems right back to the history of our organization’s founding. The Conservation Council was created in 1969 when a group of government scientists and naturalists galvanized around the gross (and gross!) pollution of the St. John River. Huge progress has been made to clean up the river and it is much better off today, however there is still a lot of work to do.

A healthier river means making it a valued priority.  We feel strongly that experiencing the river first hand is the first step in renewing our connection and our values of the waters and the river. We want to help reignite peoples’ passion for the river.

We hope that highlighting information on public access to the St. John River  will help get more and more people using the river – one of the best recreational opportunities right in our own backyard.

Then, we hope you will join us in advocating for continued clean, safe waters to play in!

Download the app and start exploring this weekend!

ExploreEcoNB was made possible by funding from Mountain Equipment Co-Op’s Community Contribution program, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, the New Brunswick Environmental Trust Fund, as well as equal funding and in-kind contributions from all participating partner organizations.

Conservation Council’s participation in ExploreEcoNB has been made possible by the Dragonfly Foundation through Tides Canada.
