Matt Betts on conserving forest biodiversity Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7PM

Join us in welcoming home New Brunswick-born Dr. Matt Betts as he delivers a talk about how and why we should protect forest biodiversity.

An award-wining environmental scientist professor in the Faculty of Forest Science & Society at Oregon State University and founding member of the Forest Biodiversity Research Network, Matt studies the ways that landscape and patterns influence animal behavior with the hope of improving environmental management and conservation efforts at home and abroad.

Come to the Abbey Cafe (546 Queen St.) in Fredericton to learn all about forest biodiversity in the tropics, New Brunswick and Oregon, and the effects of forest fragmentation, herbicides, and deforestation on biodiversity.

Want to get your questions ready early? Browse through some of Matt’s previously published work, read about Matt in the news, or visit the Forest Biodiversity Research Network for more information.

  • When: Thursday, August 31 at 7:00pm
  • Where: the Abbey Cafe, 546 Queen St., Fredericton.

Want to help forest biodiversity in N.B.? This summer, the Conservation Council released maps showing the spraying hotspots in the province and a  forest report card that draws attention to the need for modern forestry laws in New Brunswick.

We have also made it easy for you to write your member in the N.B. Legislature to voice your concerns with spraying. And, we created this survey for you to fill out to have your say on Crown forest management. Fill out the survey and you could win a gift basket of goods worth more than $100.
