An article on Muddy Boots, a new initiative launched at Florenceville Elementary School with help from the Conservation Council, appeared in the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal on Wednesday, June 10.
Muddy Boots is a new green space and outdoor education site on the grounds of Florenceville Elementary School. On Tuesday, June 9, students from Grades 3 through 5 were joined by landscaper Jackalyn Darling, town gardener Terry Hunter, and CCNB’s Learning Outside project coordinator Nadine Ives to plant 100 trees on the property.
“It’s going to be an amazing space,” Ives was quoted in the June 10 article. “A resource for the teachers, something the kids will enjoy and something for the whole community. It is very positive all around.”
Ives added she doesn’t believe it is difficult to get kids enthusiastic about nature.
“All kids are eager to be out in nature and learning about stuff and getting their hands on,” Ives said. “The thing is today’s kids unfortunately don’t have as much opportunity as previous generations of kids have had. We tend to over-schedule our own lives and our kids’ lives.”
