Louise Comeau talks to media about the Report of the Select Committee on Climate Change

he-louise-comeauDr. Louise Comeau, the Conservation Council’s Climate Change and Energy Solutions Director, had a busy week talking to media about the recommendations made in the “Final Report of the Select Committee on Climate Change.” The all-party committee made 85 recommendations that are in line with what the Conservation Council has been proposing — including a phase out of coal in electricity production by 2030, and a provincial greenhouse gas reduction target of 40% below 1990 levels by 2030 and by 80 percent below 2001 levels by 2050.

  • Comeau told CBC Shift that the recommendations lay out a rigorous structure for reducing greenhouse gases and looks forward to the province moving forward on legislation, governance and implementation.
  • Comeau spoke about some of the 85 recommendations made in the Select Committee report and argued for a carbon price as just one component in a climate action plan on  CBC Info Morning Moncton. She encouraged action in light of the costs of climate change events that New Brunswickers are already facing.
  • Global News reported Comeau’s thoughts on carbon pricing and the need for investments to be directed towards carbon reductions.
  • The Telegraph-Journal (Oct. 25, 2016, page A3) reported that, “The Conservation Council of New Brunswick praised the report, mentioning that it had adopted the environmental organization’s recommendation for the introduction of a Climate Change Act to set in law a provincial greenhouse gas reduction target of 40 per cent below 1990 levels by 2030 and by 80 per cent below 2001 levels by 2050.”
