Lois Corbett, Executive Director of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick, had the last word during a call-in segment of CBC Radio’s Maritime Noon program on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Corbett talked about the failure of the National Energy Board to consider the climate change impact of TransCanada’s proposed Energy East pipeline project. She said approving the pipeline does not make sense in a world where governments are coming under increasing pressure from local populations and the international community to reduce their dependence on energy produced from oil and coal. Instead, she said the key conversation we should be having as a country is, how do we make the clean, safe transition away from fossil fuels and toward solar and renewable energy?
