CCNB supports proposed e-waste recycling program

Executive Director Lois Corbett spoke with the Moncton Times & Transcript about the provincial government’s proposed electronics recycling program for an article published on Tuesday, July 27.

By the fall of 2016, the province is aiming to launch an e-waste recycling program that would operate similar to the beverage container program. Consumers pay a small fee when purchasing electronics, and the industry is responsible for the proper disposal of units at Recycle NB depots to be set up across the province.

Corbett told the T&T the proposed changes spelled “progress” for the province.

“New Brunswick has lagged other provinces when it comes to letting their citizens do the right thing,” she said. “Increasing citizens’ ability to act on what they know is right to do in their heart, that’s really good.”

Corbett said she believes most New Brunswickers will welcome the changes.

“When I see overflowing blue and grey boxes every week in our cities and towns and I see people lined up to go into rural recycling depots, I know the commitment is there,” she said. “Anything we can do to prevent toxic chemicals from going into the environment is a very good thing.”
