Corbett was asked to respond to calls made by the Atlantica Centre for Energy for the moratorium to be lifted immediately.
“We have a very unique province here in the sense that we’ve got a lot of water. We’ve got a lot of groundwater, we’ve got a lot of surface water. We need to put water protection and citizens’ health protection first,” Corbett said.
She said the province can achieve its job creation goals without putting drinking water at risk by investing in a low-carbon economy.
“We’re all wrapped up in the economic opportunity that presents itself by acting on reducing greenhouse gases. So our policy hasn’t changed one bit, it’s time to move on and invest in the renewable sector and not natural gas.”
