Energy bills in New Brunswick are pushing too many families to the brink. People are being forced to choose between heating their homes and putting food on the table. That’s not just unfair—it’s a crisis. Our energy system is outdated, expensive, and failing the people who need it most. We need bold action, not Band-Aid solutions. That means expanding access to energy efficiency, protecting people from unfair rate hikes, modernizing the Energy and Utilities Board to prioritize affordability and climate, and accelerating our shift to clean, low-cost power like wind and solar. **Make Energy Efficiency Affordable and Accessible** Energy efficiency should be for everyone, not just those who can afford it. The Enhanced Energy Savings Program is a great start—thank you for supporting it. But it’s not nearly enough. Thousands are still stuck on waitlists. Many families earning just over $70,000—by no means wealthy—can’t get help. Renters, too, are often left behind, stuck with high bills and no way to improve their homes. We need a system that meets the size of the problem. That means: 1. More funding for energy upgrades that lower bills; 2. Zero-interest loans for insulation, heat pumps, and weatherproofing; 3. Support for middle-income families, renters, and Indigenous communities; 4. Incentives for landlords to upgrade without raising rents; 5. A bulk-buy solar program so more families can produce their own power and save. At the same time, we need to stop unfair rate hikes and give consumers stronger protection. Keeping power affordable should be a priority, not an afterthought. **Power Our Future with Clean, Cheap Energy** Right now, our Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) doesn’t have a clear mandate to consider climate or long-term affordability. That needs to change. We can’t meet our emissions targets or protect people from rising costs without modern oversight. The good news? Clean energy is the cheapest and most reliable option. Wind, solar, batteries, and grid upgrades can give us energy independence and long-term savings. By modernizing the EUB’s mandate, let’s give the province the tools to: 1. Put affordability and climate goals at the heart of every decision; 2. Speed up investment in renewables and modern infrastructure; 3. Build a stronger, cheaper, and cleaner energy system for the future. **A Better Future Is Possible** New Brunswick’s energy system is broken, but we can fix it. By investing in efficiency, protecting ratepayers, and embracing clean energy, we can build a province where no one is left behind. These changes will help thousands of New Brunswickers who deserve a fair shot at affordable, sustainable energy. Please take action.
