Corridor says it will consult before fracking

But saying the company will talk with residents doesn’t ease concerns of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick.

“Consultation has become a buzz word that doesn’t mean anything,” said council spokeswoman Stephanie Merrill. She said whether it is true consultation will depend on how the company handles it.

She said the company needs to listen to community concerns if they’re brought up. Otherwise it would just be making the motions of consultation.

Merrill said that while it is true seismic testing is done around the province, protestors see this as a way to stop fracking before it begins in Kent County.

“Clearly he doesn’t understand why seismic testing is being protested,” she said.

“People see this as the beginning of shale gas development,” Merrill said.
