NB native Lois Corbett moves home to take the helm of environmental group
Fredericton, April 22, 2014 — The Conservation Council of New Brunswick (CCNB) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Executive Director.
Lois Corbett comes to CCNB with 30 years of environmental policy experience working for the non-profit sector, government, and as a private consultant. In senior management and policy advisor roles with environmental non-governmental groups, her focus has been on building strategic and effective organizations, and developing plans that help the public, industry and governments learn more about and take steps to protect the environment and natural areas they love.
Now in its 45th year, the CCNB is the province’s leading environmental advocacy group, and its active Board of Directors, staff and volunteers have enthusiastically welcomed Lois “back home.” Originally from Johnville, NB, in Carleton County, Lois first worked as a summer student at CCNB in 1984.
“New Brunswick is at a critical juncture. We need to put in place stronger environmental protection measures in the face of increased risks to our water and air and wildlife, whether it’s from mining proposals, pipelines, increased tanker traffic, potential offshore gas exploration or inadequate Crown forest plans,” says Stephanie Coburn, CCNB President. “I am confident that Lois will draw on her extensive experience to help CCNB thrive, and contribute, with the assistance of our supporters, donors, members and staff, to making the Picture Province more sustainable over the long term.”
“I couldn’t be more pleased to come home after all of these years away. A month every summer just didn’t give me enough New Brunswick – so my family and I decided to make it permanent,” says Corbett. “It is an honour to serve CCNB, an organization known across Canada as one of the strongest and most respected Maritime environmental voices. I look forward to learning more about NB’s unique issues and working to build a movement that positions the province as a 21st Century leader in environmental protection and innovation.”
