Lois Corbett, executive director of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick, spoke about the proposed Energy East pipeline during a segment on CBC Moncton’s Information Morning program on Friday, Oct. 31. Corbett said TransCanada’s application to the National Energy Board, filed Thursday, Oct. 30, doesn’t adequately address the concern shared by thousands of Canadians over the impact the pipeline project could have on drinking water and recreational waterways, particularly in New Brunswick. Corbett also expressed concern that the effect of this development on climate change has been completely overlooked by the company and National Energy Board. Finally, she cautions a spill in the Bay of Fundy would have a devstating impact on thousands of important fishery and tourism jobs in the region.
