This weekend, several staff members from the Conservation Council, including our Executive Director Lois Corbett, attended the Act on Climate march in Quebec City.
The march was a positive, family-friendly show of force in support of our premiers who are gathering this week in Quebec City to discuss climate change. We were joined in the streets by 25,000 passionate citizens who want to see our leaders act on curbing climate change and creating jobs in clean renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Lois Corbett was also a panelist at the Act on Climate Forum on Sunday, April 12, where she spoke about fair and effective climate policy. She spoke with CBC New Brunswick from the forum for a segment which aired on CBC radio on Monday, April 13.
Fredericton radio station KHJ reported on Corbett’s appearance at the march and forum. Read the online article here.
Corbett also spoke with reporter Christine Morris of the Telegraph-Journal regarding the climate march and forum. She told Morris she is hoping Premier Brian Gallant (who will attend the climate change talks in Quebec City on Tuesday, April 14) will bring his ambition to Quebec.
“The premiers who are leaders today need to be outrageously ambitious in pumping up their programs with respect to carbon pollution,” Corbett said.
“At one point, New Brunswick was out ahead of the curve with aggressive targets, but now … the programs that they designed to meet the 2020 target are inadequate.”
