Clean water. We’re protecting it.

It was easy to pick a theme for the first week of our annual Membership Month at the Conservation Council.

As much as this month is about encouraging new supporters to become members and further amplify our organization’s voice, it’s also a chance for us to appreciate our existing members, and highlight what we’ve been able to accomplish together.

Ensuring clean drinking water is at the top of that list. We might have been the ones who launched the campaign to protect New Brunswickers’ drinking water from shale gas development in 2011, but it was the whole-hearted participation of our members that won the moratorium on hydraulic fracturing for all of us last fall.

Working together, meeting together, talking together — whether at town hall forums, public events or around the dinner table — our members made it clear to leaders that nothing is worth risking our precious drinking water.

This is what we can accomplish when we join together for our environment and communities.

Most recently, we have been busy ensuring drinking water stays protected by sharing the science with the provincial commission reviewing the conditions of the fracking moratorium.

This summer, we highlighted the vulnerability of our rivers, lakes and streams as they await water classification, and we helped cottage-owners and lake-goers learn about blue-green algae blooms and what they can do to prevent them.

There’s still work to be done, and you can join us to become part of the solutions.

Join the Conservation Council or become one of our monthly donors today to be a part of the positive change happening in our province.
