APTN National News covers report on risks to Bay of Fundy from pipeline project

Fundy Baykeeper Matthew Abbott speaks with APTN National News.

Fundy Baykeeper Matthew Abbott spoke with APTN National News on Sept.  10 about our report into the risks posed by TransCanada’s Energy East Pipeline project to sustainable jobs and marine life in the Bay of Fundy.

Abbott said the significant increased in tanker traffic the project would bring into the Bay of Fundy will increase noise pollution which impacts whales — of particular concern for the endangered North Atlantic right whale.

Abbott also commented on seismic testing TransCanada is planning to conduct off the coast of the Bay of Fundy as part of its project application. Abbott said this type of testing is being conducted at the worst time of year in terms of the impact it will have on marine life and migratory birds. He also noted the company did not contact or seek input from local experts before planning the seismic testing.
