Big love for the St. Croix/Skutik River

Our recent poll showing big support for the removal of the Milltown Dam and restoration of Salmon Falls received good coverage in regional media.

As you’ll remember, last month the Conservation Council and Atlantic Salmon Federation commissioned Oraclepoll Research to ask residents of the St. Stephen, St. Andrews, McAdam, and Campobello region about their awareness and impressions of the dam removal project.

We found that residents sure love the St. Croix/Skutik River, with 87 per cent saying they support the planned removal.

The removal of the Milltown Dam is one component of a comprehensive Skutik River restoration plan being led by the Peskotomuhkati Nation which includes habitat enhancement throughout the watershed and fish passage improvement at other dams upstream. The Conservation Council and other watershed and environmental organizations are participating in the restoration efforts. Learn more about it here.
