In a show of support for an end to herbicide spraying on Crown land near Petitcodiac, roughly 25 people gathered outside the Petitcodiac village office on Tuesday, Aug. 15, where a meeting was scheduled between the village council and J.D. Irving regarding the company’s spray program, Global News reports.
The meeting was cancelled after Petitcodiac Mayor Jerry Gogan learned that the Irving representative was not a scientist and wouldn’t be able to address the residents’ environmental and health concerns.
Instead of rescheduling the meeting, Mayor Gogin said he hopes to invite concerned citizens, the Conservation Council and J.D. Irving to a public information session where residents will be able to voice their environment and health concerns.
