This sculpture was designed to celebrate the forests of the world and to bring a modern whimsical feel to the issue. Using the Tree Ent from the Lord of the Rings trilogy and blending it with a short story about these whimsical creatures of the forest brings the conversation to reality; without the forests of the world we would not be here. But with them, we are stronger than we could ever be.

I was first inspired to create the ‘Red Rose’ after I spent some time just sitting in the backyard watching our rose plants and the variety of bugs and wildlife that frequented the plants. One particular rose caught my eye, half-obscured by a massive leaf. Focusing on this incredible flower in its full bloom with half of it out of my view left me to imagine the entire flower in my mind as I would…

The North Atlantic Right Whale is one of the world’s most endangered large whale species, with less than 380 individuals remaining. Right Whales are baleen whales, feeding on copepods (tiny crustaceans) by straining huge volumes of ocean water through their baleen plates, which act as a sieve. An interesting fact is that Right Whales can vocalize and make sounds such as whoops, screams and groans.

This carving represents the lifeline of our Earth, our home. Each curve is a conflict or pandemic. The first three curves represent WWI, WWII, and Pandemics. The last curve, and by far the largest one, is Climate Change; the leather represents how we repaired our past mistakes. The question now is, will we repair the damage we have created over the past years? Will we restore the Earth…

But years later, after spending his entire life in the same house and on the same wall, the image has aged and grown out of the frame. The writing on his pipe is in Dwarven, from Lord of The Rings, and states the following, just for fun. -On the bowl: (G.A.C) Gary A Crosby…
