Meet our summer team of young people working to change the world!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”138635″ img_size=”700 x 400″ style=”vc_box_shadow”][vc_column_text]We are thrilled to introduce you to our team of bright, enthusiastic and talented young people joining us at Conserver House this summer. We hope you’ll stop by 180 St. John St. to say hello![/vc_column_text][vc_text_separator title=”Hannah Moore”][vc_column_text]Originally from Halifax, N.S., my education brought me to Fredericton to study at St. Thomas University, where I double major in communications and public policy, and environment and society.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1527700242943{margin-top: -30px !important;}”][vc_column width=”2/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1527701594397{margin-top: -10px !important;}”][vc_column_text]My past two years of university have provided me with knowledge, understanding and agency that have helped me pursue my passion for environmental conservation. I will be working with the communications team at the Conservation Council over the summer, where I will write about current environmental topics in New Brunswick to help engage the public, and expand the lens through which we view environmental issues.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1527700315704{margin-top: -60px !important;}”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_single_image image=”138623″ img_size=”400 x 250″ style=”vc_box_circle_2″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1527700353889{margin-top: -10px !important;}”] I am looking forward to strengthening my writing skills, learning more about environmental policy, and becoming more involved in the conservation community in New Brunswick. My favourite summer activities include hiking, practicing yoga, swimming and spending as much time outdoors as possible. I am also working on growing my own vegetables in my garden this summer — although you will have to stay tuned to see if that is a success![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”Noah Turner”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”138626″ img_size=”400 x 250″ style=”vc_box_circle_2″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1527700420855{margin-top: -30px !important;}”][vc_column_text]I am originally from the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia and am currently studying human rights and criminology at St. Thomas University. I feel very fortunate to work with the Conservation Council this summer, where I will help manage the Swim Guide app (New Brunswick region), conduct research for various projects, and help with the communications team.

I am really looking forward to this opportunity because it allows me to apply what I am learning in the classroom, build connections in the Fredericton community, and, above all, develop skills in the field of environmental advocacy. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1527700457990{margin-top: -15px !important;}”][vc_column_text]When I am not at work, I really enjoy going to the beach or on other outdoor adventures, reading, and cooking. Being as this is my first summer in the province, I am really excited to explore some of the beautiful provincial parks that New Brunswick has to offer![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”Georgia Chase”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1527700797222{margin-top: -30px !important;}”][vc_column_text]I spent the early years of my life in Belledune in northern New Brunswick and later grew up in Fredericton. I am currently doing a Bachelor of Commerce at McGill University in Montreal, studying Managing for Sustainability with a concentration in International Business and a minor in Political Science.

I am very passionate about environmental issues and I’m looking forward to learning about the specific issues that my province is facing and the efforts being made to improve them. In the summer I love to enjoy the sun and take advantage of our local trails by going biking. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”138624″ img_size=”400 x 250″ style=”vc_box_circle_2″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]When the weather isn’t so nice, I like to read and look into new ways to contribute to my new zero-waste lifestyle. A zero-waste lifestyle means that I do not throw anything in the trash so a few of the efforts I have made have been switching to products that are more sustainable. This includes making my own toothpaste, using a bamboo toothbrush (its compostable!) and using a shampoo bar that doesn’t come in any packaging! I also buy food in bulk using reusable produce bags or glass jars, and I eat a lot of fruits and veggies (that I try to buy locally) with no packaging. Go earth![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”Sam Blaney”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1527701323190{margin-top: -30px !important;}”]My name is Samuel Blaney, but I go by Sam. Born in the mountainous region of Maple Ridge 60 kilometers west of Fredericton, I am a New Brunswick boy at heart. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”138625″ img_size=”400 x250″ style=”vc_box_circle_2″ css=”.vc_custom_1527701313436{margin-top: -15px !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1527701386856{margin-top: -10px !important;}”]I am studying for my Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Design Engineering at the University of Prince Edward Island, entering my third year.

At the Conservation Council this summer, I am looking forward to the opportunity of learning and taking a closer look into the environmental problems facing New Brunswick. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1527701410422{margin-top: -10px !important;}”]During the summer months I prefer to be outside reading a book by the pool, playing frisbee with my family, and going on camping trips in the woods with my friends. A few of the hobbies I enjoy are reading, watching movies, woodworking and carpentry, exploring the woods of New Brunswick, and hanging out with my family.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”Zachary Bourque”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1527701474150{margin-top: -30px !important;}”][vc_column_text]Named after francophone singer/songwriter Zachary Richard, I was born in Halifax, N.S. and grew up in Fredericton.

I am currently enrolled in the Masters of Environmental Management program at the University of New Brunswick, where I obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Environment and Natural Resources Management in 2016. Having worked for the Conservation Council in past internships, I am excited to be back as Summer Student Coordinator, working alongside our group of dedicated staff tackling important environmental issues in New Brunswick. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”138627″ img_size=”400 x 250″ style=”vc_box_circle_2″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]During the summer, you can find me walking or bicycling through Fredericton’s Odell Park and Currie Mountain, and the trails of the Bay of Fundy.

I also enjoy and am looking forward to camping and spending time in Grand Manan this season! While I regret not having much time to have hobbies, I do spend some of my free time aiding my partner in her garden at our home. We have started growing lettuce, green beans, cucumbers and garlic. I see many salads in my future![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
