Ice storm review report to be released tomorrow

The January 2017 ice storm review report will be released tomorrow (Friday, Aug. 18).

Judy Wagner, clerk of the Executive Council and author of the report, will release the review with Public Safety Minister Denis Landry, NB Power CEO Gaëtan Thomas and New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization director Greg MacCallum at 11:30 a.m. in Neguac.

Premier Brian Gallant had ordered the high-level review of government and community responses to the ice storm that rocked southern New Brunswick last winter, causing 133,000 homes to lose power and forcing several communities in the Acadian Peninsula to declare a state of emergency.

The Conservation Council has actively researched New Brunswick’s capacity to adapt and respond to the effects of climate change and related extreme weather events, such as post-tropical storm Arthur and the January 2017 ice storm.

Check back tomorrow for our response to the report.

In the meantime, you can read our submission to the review here.
