Just how big of a difference can energy efficiency really make in a home? You need only ask the Naugler family on Fredericton’s north side.
The Nauglers are the owners of the first super energy-efficient Passive House built in New Brunswick. They pay just $100/year – or roughly $10/month – to heat their two-storey home thanks to the myriad of energy efficiency measures used during construction.
And while we’re at it, how about another uplifting energy story, this time from rural New Brunswick?
Meet Rudi Fowler, a 29-year-old living on the outskirts of Tracy who has never had a bill from NB Power, and has no plans on ever getting one.
Fowler generates enough electricity to supply his family of five’s energy needs through a system of 20 solar panels and batteries. It cost the family around $25,000, which they plan to pay off over 12 years.
Fowler and his wife Amy recently told reporters their home has all the same conveniences and appliances as their neighbours’, with an added social perk: when there is a power outage for everyone else, their home becomes the go-to gathering for cold community members.

These are just a couple examples of the exciting ways people right here in New Brunswick are adapting to climate change and championing a clean energy future.
