Officials say flood waters in Fredericton have already reached the historical levels of the 2008 flood, and that communities in the lower St. John River basin are likely in for even higher levels yet.
During a media briefing on Tuesday, officials with the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization warned that people in communities downriver, such as Jemseg, Hampstead, Belleisle, Grand Bay-Westfield, Quispamsis and Saint John, who have experienced flooding in the past should expect similar or worse conditions in the next few days as water levels continue to rise.
Dozens of roads are closed throughout the province, mostly in the Fredericton, Saint John and Edmundston regions. To date, 110 people have fled their homes, largely in the Fredericton region, while 104 NB Power customers have had their power shut off.

Officials with the Canadian Red Cross are encouraging residents in flooded areas, or where floodwaters are expected to rise, to contact them for help getting themselves, their family and family pets to safety. Call 1-800-863-6582.
