Corbett questions Premier Higgs’ participation in pro-pipeline rally

Our Executive Director, Lois Corbett, told Global New Brunswick that Premier Blaine Higgs would be better served “sticking to his knitting” on issues most pressing in New Brunswick, instead of travelling across Canada fighting for oil and gas interests in Western Canada.

Global News published an article on Feb. 19 about Premier Blaine Higgs’ participation in a panel at the “United We Roll” pro-pipeline rally in Ottawa in February. A week earlier, Higgs was in Saskatchewan at another pro-pipeline rally with Premier Scott Moe.

Corbett was among those in the article questioning why the premier continues to fight for oil and gas projects on the other end of the country instead of helping New Brunswickers deal with the effects of climate change that are already here and now.

“We need to act to reduce pollution not run in the opposite direction and build more pipelines and burn more gas, oil or coal,” Corbett said. “Look, we know that’s bad for our health and bad for our economy.”
