Fredericton, N.B. — The Conservation Council of New Brunswick (CCNB) applauds the federal Government decision to ratify the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

More than 200 federal MPs voted in favor of the historic motion on Wednesday evening, officially adding Canada to the list of over 60 countries, accounting for 55 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, needed to bring the Paris Agreement into force.

“Human-caused climate change puts our health and well-being at risk. The entry into force of the Paris Agreement, combined with national efforts to forge a Pan-Canadian climate plan and New Brunswick’s upcoming Select Committee on Climate Change recommendations, signal the time for transformation to a low-carbon world has finally arrived. Our children and grandchildren deserve no less,” said Louise Comeau, Director of Climate Change and Energy Solutions.

According to a press statement issued earlier that day from United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the Paris Agreement, which commits the world’s countries to work aggressively to keep global warming to below 1.5°C change will come into force on Nov. 4.
