This past summer, Dave Kattenberg, director and producer of a feature series Twelve Canadians, contacted us at the Conservation Council. He wanted to travel to New Brunswick to talk to us about the work we do and the issues we are passionate about. “Absolutely!”, we said, and we have lots to share and can tour around to some amazing places and meet some amazing people that fuel our passion for the work we do.

We used this opportunity to highlight the work of our Freshwater Program including our fracking campaign, our effort to protect the wild Atlantic salmon bearing Nashwaak River, our Baykeeper’s work keeping an eye on the Aquaculture industry in the Bay of Fundy, Inka’s career at CCNB addressing public health issues from industrial pollutants and marine conservation research.

It was a great week hosting Dave and showing him the scenery in and around Fredericton, Stanley, Elsipogtog, St. Andrews, and Miramichi.

His feature series has launched and we are excited to be a part of 4 episodes!

Listen as each of the episode as are released:

frackingepisode

Fear & Loathing in Canadian Frackland

I knew little about this most notorious of earth gouging techniques when I journeyed to New Brunswick last summer to attend a fracking “Day of Protest” in Kent County, between Moncton and Miramichi — Elsipogtog First Nations territory — but I was familiar with the horror stories.

nashwaakepisode

The Nashwaak River

Getting to visit some of Canada’s most gorgeous spots is one of the perks of the reporting profession. This past July I got to visit New Brunswick’s Nashwaak River; to travel up from her mouth, across the Saint John River from Fredericton and the provincial legislature, to headwaters a hundred and fifty kilometers north, near the spot Vancouver-based Northcliff Resources wants to set up a tungsten-molybdenum mine.

Fundy Baykeeper

Matt Abbott patrols the waters of Passamaquoddy Bay on behalf of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick, keeping an eye on salmon farms, fishing garbage out of the water, and cultivating community along the shores of the astonishing Bay of Fundy. We also hear from Janice Harvey and Inka Milewski

Episodes coming soon:

Inka Milewski: Trained as a marine biologist, this New Brunswick researcher has focused her attention over the past decade on the health of communities threatened by dirty industry. Inka is a force to be reckoned with.
