CCNB’s Louise Comeau on talking climate change to MPs

The Conservation Council’s Louise Comeau was the subject of a front page story in the April 13 edition of the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal.

Comeau, Director of Climate Change and Energy Solutions, spoke with the newspaper about being in Ottawa this week to meet with MPs about climate change.

“We’re meeting with the New Brunswick MPs to talk about climate change and the legislature’s select committee and what we think a climate plan for New Brunswick would look like and how it would fit into the national process,” Comeau said.

“We really see the climate protection agenda as an opportunity to essentially simulate a green economy in New Brunswick. We’ve seen lots of research and evidence for the potential job creation there. So in the main, we’ll want this to be about a sustainable, prosperous New Brunswick that’s thriving through investment in the green economy.”

Comeau has meetings scheduled with several New Brunswick MPs this week, including T.J. Harvey (Tobique-Mactaquac), Wayne Long (Saint John-Rothesay), and Matt DeCourcey (Fredericton).

Comeau told the Telegraph-Journal that heavy fossil fuels should be phased out by NB Power at Belledune and Coleson Cove, replaced by renewable energy sources.

She said we need more industries and cars to go electric and the province needs agricultural and forestry policies that address climate change.

“Sustainable agriculture, sustainable forestry, all of these things are important.”
