EcoAlert Special Edition: N.B. Election 2018

The platforms are out. The signs are up. And the TV debates (luv ‘em or hate ‘em) are almost done. And one thing is for certain — our messages have resonated and our collective impact has been felt.

Various leaders and party platforms have promised to stop spraying the Crown forest and review the seriously outdated Crown forest management policies and law. Commitments to protect rivers, lakes and streams and forge forward on new watershed protection laws have been made.

The science tells us that, to have any chance of keeping global warming below 2°C, 80 per cent of the world’s fossil fuels must stay in the ground. that means of course, that the ban on fracking has to stay in place in N.B.

We work to support both government and NB communities to take meaningful climate action and that’s why we’ve called out for a fast ramp up of renewable energy, like solar and wind.

We all know we must do more to tackle the growing climate crisis. We need everyone, including the provincial government, businesses, communities and individuals to take action. That’s why we were relentless when talking in our gentle, non-partisan way with every leader about reducing carbon pollution.

Whether it’s the St. John River flood, pollution at Parlee Beach or increased nature protection in our Crown forest or the Bay of Fundy, our members, our staff people and colleagues in local and provincial environmental groups have really helped shine a light on key environmental issues. We dedicate this issue to you.

How to use the online EcoAlert:

You can flip through the pages of EcoAlert online in a few different ways: hover your cursor over the bottom corner of the page; click on the shaded bar running up along the right-hand-side of the magazine; or use your mousewheel.

To enter full screen mode, click on the furthest button to the right on the gray menu bar at the top of the magazine (looks like a little computer monitor). This menu also includes buttons for searching the document, sharing it with friends, or accessing more options.

Click on the page to zoom in. Use the cursor or directional keys on your keyboard to move around the page. If the cursor moves too loose, you can get more control by clicking the button called ‘Move by mouse position.’ To access this feature: enter full screen mode, double-click on the page, a new menu bar will appear near the bottom of the page. The ‘Move by mouse position’ is the last button on the far right (looks like a hand with brackets around it). This will let you move the cursor freely without moving the page. If you want to move around the page in this mode, just click and drag your cursor.
