What’s going in our water? Have your say on World Oceans Day

Today is World Oceans Day!

On this day, we take time to honor our world’s shared ocean, celebrate its greatness, and learn how we can better protect it by working together.

A healthy ocean is crucial for a healthy world. It generates much of the air we breathe, feeds us, regulates our climate, and holds hidden treasures deep below the surface.

Ocean pollution has become an overwhelming environmental issue of 2018; millions of tonnes of plastic entered the great beloved blue this year. The issue really rang true to home when a lobster with a Pepsi logo imprinted on it’s claw was pulled from the Bay of Fundy last fall.

Approximately 100,000 marine animals die from plastic debris every year. But good things are happening — cities, governments, organizations like your Conservation Council, businesses and people across the world, including throughout Canada and here in New Brunswick, are working to keep plastic waste from littering our oceans and coastal beaches.

Fill out our short poll below to tell us what you think are the main sources of pollution entering our precious marine waters. Then, we’d love to hear what you are doing at home or at work to #BeatPlasticPollution!
