5 Days for the Forest 2017!

5 Days for the Forest is back this year to celebrate our forest in its fall glory with nature walks, art, music, film and TREEvia.  Hosted by the Conservation Council of New Brunswick, 5 Days for the Forest events will occur in Fredericton during National Forest Week, Sept. 25-29, 2017.

Monday, Sept. 25

Old Hemlock Forest Walk with Dr. Jim Goltz
Meet at Odell Park Lodge at 5:30pm.
Naturalist Dr. Jim Goltz will take walkers through Fredericton’s old hemlock forest, Odell Park. With a cup of chaga tea.

Tuesday, Sept. 26

Great Trees of New Brunswick
University of New Brunswick’s Faculty of Forestry & Environmental Management Building, Room 203 at 5:30pm.
Geoff Ritchie, arborist and author of Trees of Knowledge, David Palmer, forester and Atlantic Forestry Review contributor, and Tracy Glynn with the Conservation Council will share stories about the hunt for New Brunswick’s great trees over Milda’s Pizza.

Wednesday, Sept. 27/National Tree Day

Getting to know trees!
Meet at Odell Park Lodge at 5:30pm.
Join Nadine Ives, the Conservation Council’s Learning Outside Coordinator, for some fun hands-on active learning through games and exploration. This activity is tailored for families, but there is something for everyone. Who knows, you may be able to pick up some tips that will help you win the TREEVIA event, 8pm at the UNB Grad House!

TREEVIA Night
UNB Grad House, 876 Windsor St. at 8:00pm.
Test your knowledge of trees and all things wild about New Brunswick. Come as a team or solo and we’ll find you a team. Prizes for top score and best team spirit.

Thursday, Sept. 28

OMISTA Chews & Brews with Brent Mason
Crowne Plaza Lord Beaverbrook Hotel at 8:00pm.
Local folk and roll musician and storyteller Brent Mason will play over tasty appetizers made with locally-sourced ingredients by Crowne Plaza chefs. Cash bar featuring local beers and ciders. Tickets: $15/door. Buy tickets now.

Friday, Sept. 29

Surviving the Fundy Footpath
Conserver House, 180 Saint John St. at 7:00pm.
A film following a Toronto city slicker as he hikes the Fundy Footpath. With Alonzo Leger with the Friends of the Fundy Footpath and Cinema Politica Fredericton.
